What a long, blessing filled day!
Our early morning flights left on time from Iowa and Michigan, our flight from Dallas to Belize was on time, and we all arrived safely in Belize. Even going through customs was uneventful! Thank you, Lord!
Pastor Rios met us at the airport in Belize City and had arranged two vans to take us to Orange Walk, two hours away. They were signs C of recent heavy rains, which is common in November. The landscape was green but rugged, but few signs of agriculture or tourism.
It was dark by the time we arrived at Orange Walk.
Pastor Rios and his wife, Ruth, welcomed us into their home for our evening meal. We were also welcomed by 8 year old granddaughter Gabby, and niece Ruth, who also helped cook our meal. What a treat to have a home cooked meal of chicken, rice and beans, and fried plantains after a long day of travel. We are looking forward to having our meals prepared by the Rios family and joining them in their home each morning and evening.
Our next stop was Iglesia Luterane, Pastor Rios' church, to unload our suitcases filled with glasses and eye testing supplies. We will be back on Sunday to set up the clinic and brush up on skills we need to run the clinic Monday through Thursday.
The final destination was a hotel Which will be our home for the coming week. We were pleasantly surprised with air conditioning units in each room and televisions!
Before retiring for the evening, our team met in a patio area for our first debriefing and devotion time. Barbara shared a devotion to remind us we are all important parts of the body of Christ, each with a special purpose to serve the people in Belize and one another. Cheryl led us in song, and we ended our evening with prayer.
